Finance Director

Title: Finance Director

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Status: Exempt

Summary: This position caters to the unique needs of growing non-profit organization. The role performs fiscal operations including but not limited to: developing budgets, preparing and presenting accurate financial statements, grants management and reporting, AR/AP, and working with our external CPA on payroll, audits and tax filings. The position also oversees any new or existing fiscal sponsorship agreements in place. This position will advise the CEO and Board of Directors, and support team on fiscal effectiveness and adheres to fiscal policies, ensuring risk management and internal controls are in place.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight: Manage day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with policies and regulations.

  • Budgeting & Planning: Lead annual budgeting in collaboration with departments; monitor performance and support strategic financial planning.

  • Accounting & Reporting: Maintain accurate records and prepare financial reports (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, cash flows) for leadership and stakeholders.

  • Grant & Donor Management: Oversee grant budgeting, reporting, and compliance; support fundraising efforts with financial data and reporting.

  • Audit & Compliance: Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls.

  • Cash Flow & Investment Management: Monitor cash flow, manage liquidity, and oversee investments where applicable.

  • Payroll & Benefits: Supervise payroll and benefits administration, ensuring compliance with labor laws.

  • Risk & Vendor Management: Identify financial risks, implement mitigation strategies, and manage vendor contracts.

  • Financial Systems & Technology: Leverage financial software and stay current on tech solutions to improve efficiency.

  • Board & Staff Collaboration: Present financials to the board; provide training to staff on financial policies and promote financial literacy.

  • Fiscal Sponsorship (if applicable): Manage fiscal sponsorship agreements and reporting for sponsored projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field or substantial/comparable accounting experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in financial management.
  • Experience in grants management, including budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance standards.Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including boards of directors.
  • Familiarity with fiscal sponsorship arrangements (if applicable). Adaptable and able to handle changing organizational priorities.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot financial challenges.
  • Continuous commitment to staying informed about financial best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree, in Accounting, Finance Administration, Business Administration, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in government accounting, auditing, budgeting, or closely related activity.
  • Experience in grants management, including budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proficient with QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Experience with presentation software.
  • Physical Demands and Requirements:

This position requires the employee to sit and/or stand for most of the day. Constant hearing, seeing, talking, communicating, reading, writing, and typing in an indoor environment.
Salary Range: $75,000 to $80,000

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
