The North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC) is seeking a motivated and hard-working Farm Manager to join our team! If you love working outdoors, growing food, and connecting with people, this is your chance to help strengthen Mansfield’s North End through urban agriculture and community development.

Position Summary

The Farm Manager oversees daily operations at NECIC’s Urban Farm (311 Bowman Street), Flourish Farm, and the Teaching Garden. This is a hands-on leadership role supporting crop production, infrastructure maintenance, seasonal planning, volunteer engagement, and community-based programming.

The Farm Manager ensures the farm runs smoothly and efficiently, aligning with NECIC’s mission to improve the quality of life and economic landscape of Mansfield’s North End.


 

Key Responsibilities

Crop & Field Management

  • Lead high tunnel production: bed building, soil prep, tilling, planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and composting.

  • Oversee irrigation and watering schedules.

  • Assist in coordinating planting schedules, crop rotation, and post-harvest handling.

  • Monitor crop health and maintain GAP compliance logs.

  • Support and supervise volunteers, youth, restored citizens, incarcerated individuals, and other diverse populations.

Infrastructure & Equipment

  • Maintain tunnels, fencing, gates, and compost systems.

  • Operate and maintain farm equipment (tractor, mower, trailers) and vehicles (farm truck, van, Chevy Bolt).

  • Track fuel levels and perform basic upkeep.

  • Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.

Coordination & Logistics

  • Assist with transportation logistics for sales and donations.

  • Support Farmers Market operations (June–September, Thursdays 4–7 PM), including setup and teardown.

  • Pick up and drop off incarcerated individuals participating in farm programming.

  • Submit weekly food orders for participants and ensure supply needs are met within budget.

  • Assist with meetings, classes, and farm tours.

Training & Development

  • Participate in agricultural trainings with Central State University.

  • Develop professional skills through assignments, training, and educational opportunities.

  • Represent NECIC at events, conferences, and public engagements.

     


     What We’re Looking For

    • Experience in farming, gardening, environmental education, or related field.

    • Knowledge of crop planning, soil management, farm equipment, and food systems.

    • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

    • Comfortable supervising and engaging with diverse groups (youth, volunteers, restored citizens, incarcerated individuals).

    • Strong administrative skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Office 365).

    • Passion for community development, food access, and economic empowerment.

    • Familiarity with Mansfield’s North End and Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) is a plus.

    • Degree in agriculture, business, or equivalent experience preferred.

    • Valid driver’s license and insurance required.



      Work Environment & Schedule

      • Work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, seasonal changes).

      • Physically active role requiring:

        • Lifting up to 50 lbs.

        • Bending, kneeling, walking uneven ground.

        • Operating farm equipment and vehicles.

      • Regular engagement with volunteers, youth, restored citizens, incarcerated individuals, and community members in a respectful, inclusive environment.

      • Full-time schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.

      • Flexibility for early mornings, evenings, and some weekends during planting, harvest, and events.

      • Flex time may be available to balance peak-season hours with lighter off-season work.
