The North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC) is an asset-based community development organization, founded in 2006 by a group of concerned residents. The mission of NECIC is "To improve the quality of life and economic landscape of the North End community."

Where people live, work, play, learn, and worship are important to their quality of life. NECIC works with residents and institutions to improve and provide access to those things essential to improve the quality of life and create a better environment for future development.

It's as Easy as ABCD

ABCD, or Asset Based Community Development, focuses on the assets of the community as opposed to the deficits. Building on the skills of local residents, the power of local associations, and the supportive functions of local institutions, asset-based community development draws upon existing community strengths to build stronger, more sustainable communities for the future.

Everyone has an asset or gift. What’s yours? And how can you use that gift to make your neighborhood better?

Transformative Convening and Transformative Organizing

NECIC supports North End residents and their efforts by utilizing  transformative convening and transformative organizing - bringing assets together to effect change. We identify the assets, find out what support the assets need, and connect them to other North End or external assets, bringing people together around issues of common interest. Once everyone is around the table, bringing their individual or organizational assets, we assist in organizing those assets to reach the common goal.

Leadership development plays an important role. We work with residents and empower them to take ownership of the project to ensure that it is grounded in the community. It is a goal to see these projects become a North End community asset rather than an NECIC organizational asset.
